Miniature Painting

This summer we converted the spare bedroom office (pc gaming) room to be the hobby room. First time since the early 90s that I don't have a desktop computer setup.

Our painting setups were on the dining room table. It's a miracle we didn't destroy the table with spilled paint or a stray hobby knife. For almost 3 years we'd tear down our setups when we hosted friends or family. Now it's all contained in a couple of benches in the new room and we can shut the door when company calls. Am thinking of hanging a cheap LCD tv on the wall to stream YouTube on.

Ps: I'll never buy another house without a basement.

We have an u finished basement that is not good to be in. Unfortunately it's the only place I can use my airbrush :( . We have quite the list of stuff we want/need in a house. If I can't have a hobby space in the house there has to be a decent garage or the house cheap enough we can build one.

Been awhile since I painted a humanoid figure. Here is my recent one, before I have sealed her.

I too have had the painting bug recently. Here are some shots of my latest ones from the Cthulhu Wars game. Really cool minis to paint. Plus they are pretty big, which helps my sawdust filled eyes. Th

Got some good painting done this weekend. Finished my Mauler Troll for Hordes. I am pleased with him. Finished the Spartan and some other stuff. Some of this is earlier but I didn't post pics yet.

Does anyone know of a "glow in the dark" paint?  I want something creepy to paint the white glow...

There probably is. The stuff I used is very old and was not very good. Paint technology has surely changed in several years...

Here's my entry to the 2019 Miniature Monthly Masters.

I truly didn't anticipate entering anything.  I haven't really spent any time at the bench since before Reapercon (October was a blur of personal and business travel).  The next "big" contest that I want to get into is Reapercon 2020 and probably won't do anything at all for Gencon.

But, last weekend I found this little Reaper Winged Cat in our loot bag and decided on a whim to get him onto a base and see what I could do with limited time.

The base color is more of the Color Shift Paint (GS World Darth Blue).  It's a neat effect, but in hindsight I probably would have been better just basecoating him a dark blue; it's nearly impossible to take a decent picture of it!  :P

PS:  Plinth is a DMG product!

Excellent work. Love the color scheme. The base is killer. Let me know if you'd ever be interested in a sculpted plinth.

Wow, you are really getting good. Your work is getting really tight. Love the red around the teeth and eyes. Any chance of adding some texture to the base or does a flat one fit the game better?

I figured for game pieces, I'd keep the bases more durable for handling.  It's all one molded piece, so I'd have to cut it to put a different base on it, and I'm not that handy.  Best I could do is buy some grit to put into the paint.

I just drop some super glue on the base and pour some grass grit on top. Works like a charm. Add a small stone from my driveway and I am good to go.

I pulled a starter set for firestorm planetfall off my shelf that I have had for years and finally primed them and put a base coat on the alien vehicles. Kind of sad that spartan games went under. I like the design of the minis in this game.

Hopefully I can make more progress on these soon.

This is a miniature wargame they tend to put much more detailed then board games... Atleast they were before CMON and Kickstarter now some board games have amazing minis in them.

I have made a little more progress not sure what's up but after like an hour my shoulder starts to hurt and I have to stop painting :(

Woah!! I'm continuously impressed by how well everyone can paint such small things! I have shaky hands, so even painting my nails can be a hassle.

How do you choose what colors to use? Do you base it on specific factions in the game, or do you go off of personal preference?

I usually just pick something I think will be cool but these are roughly based of the paint scheme of the minis used on the box and in the rulebook.

Getting old stinks.  Enjoy what you have as it will never get better, but it will definitely slide downhill.
