Or maybe red oak?

Nope and nope. This is a tough one. Ignore the color. Look closely at the grain.

Yucatan Rosewood?

Nope. Another good guess.

Grrrrr!  It's very stripey.  It sort of looks like some of my black limba, but not remotely like other parts of it.

I had to go look up Black Limba, that is a pretty wood.

I have no idea what that board is, you took all my guesses Barb.

This is out there, but Canarywood?

Ooh - I could see that - the very straight grain with color variation.. I think you may have it this time.

Fingers crossed.  Tamarand could look like that too if it's not spalted.

I'd say Benge

I thought I pulled it out of one of you posts.  Benge was my first wrong guess...

That's mean @Barb Bliss.  But that was not a wood I chose - it was just a purchase of an 'in stock' item, and actually I don't think I ever knew what wood it was :)

I've been going through the pictures of DMG at home, and I say @Adam's Pau Rosa die again.  Still gives me pangs of envy.

Wow - there's a name I haven't seen on here in a while.  Hope he's doing well.

Me too.  He's a software geek too, so maybe he's on a hot project.

This looks close, too.  African Mahogany belonging to @yatescory.

Ooh yes.  Because it has that 'flecking' in the grain as well that made me think of the porous nature of Padauk.

I like this one even more than your Canarywood guess.
