What's your yard look like?

Recommended Posts

Oooh!! I'll have to grab some photos of mine. The Redbud is in bloom, the apple tree is too, along with whatever the other trees in our yard are. (I just love Redbuds.) Tons of wild garlic/scallions, the peonies should bloom in a month or so...

My Dad's memorial garden is waking up too.  Over 20 different hostas are planted in here.  Hostas were my addiction before wood products.

Hostas are such a neat plant.  My current yard/pasture looks like we are trying to grow a jungle. I've got my work cut out for me this year to try and tame down the weeds (bermuda grass is evil incarnate). Pictures will have to wait until things are a bit more presentable : ).  However I did discover some baby birds that are in a roll of fencing we have outside. No idea what they are and I can't see into it very well, but will be very curious to see what they are.

Gorgeous!  I envy you your zone.  So many cool plants that wouldn't make it in Minnesota.  I only allow myself a few plants that I have to dig up in the fall.  Otherwise it's too high maintenance.

Your front yard immediately reminds me of where I grew up! Actually.. I think you're only a couple hours away from my hometown anyway. ?

You see pictures of a beautiful oasis, and all you see is the book exchange?  You are not a gardener!  smh.

Mrs Ike is a voracious reader and the Little after Library has been a big hit in the neighborhood.

@Barb Bliss yes we are fortunate that just about anything can grow here, but have to be careful with the front yard, as it gets so much sun things can get toasted.  The back is very shady though so there are lots of options between the two.

@Zoe where are you originally from?

If only you knew some woodsmiths who could build an awesome one. ;)  you’ve probably got winter weather considerations we don’t have to deal with though.

My yard is starting to wake up, and neighbors have been stopping by for a drink.

I wasn't able to get a picture, but thought you'd enjoy the story.  It's been super dry here.  I was working at my dining room table and this chickadee was LOUDLY tweeting it's brains out just outside my window.  I sneaked over to take a peek.  Sure enough he was happily hopping around on top of the fountain, occasionally taking a drink and zipping through the water stream coming out of the top of the rock, and then shaking his tail feathers.  At one point he looked like he was using it as a bidet!  By the time I got my camera and got back to the window, he had flown into the tree.  It was just precious.

As promised, here is my permeable paver project pictures.  Oh my aching body...  Note: I really wish I had done this BEFORE all the helicopters fell.

My dad's memorial garden less than 3 weeks after that last picture was taken (May 16th above).  Note: guess what I collected before DMG gear...

I busted my tail to get my gardens ready for this Saturday's garden party before dinner at Al's Place.  Mother Nature is a twisted witch.  I'd take some pictures, but it's too darn hot and muggy out.

Weird weather this year but the begonias obviously love it (pay no attention to the jugs of rain water).

@Adam, It looks like you guys haven't gotten much rain.  We had quite a bit on Friday and Saturday during the day.  I envy you your Japanese Maple.  It's just a little too cold here in the winter for them.

It had been a VERY long stretch with no rain here. Daily watering was necessary to keep the flowers going, fortunately everything else is now well established and can do better during dry times. We did finally get a good amount overnight and still supposed to get some more this morning, so that is a good thing. However, whatever falls now is going to get sucked up pretty quick, so I'm sure I'll be back to watering tomorrow.
